Make It Monday #117: Paper Piecing

This weeks MIM is all about paper piecing. Melissa's very lovely example used a stamped image cut out of various papers. However, with the Blog hop challenge this weekend being all about the florals I decided to steer well away from anything flowery.
I don't think I have many stamps that lend themselves to piecing (although I look forward to seeing what everyone else does with the challenge as I always see so many examples that I'd never thought of using stamps I own) so I decided to make a pieced background instead. I'm hoping this still fits within the parameters of the challenge.
The paper is all from MME Portbello Road collection. I cut 6" by 6" squares of all 4 papers into strips 1" at the top tapering to the corner and then pieced them onto a bit of card stock just slightly smaller than 5.5' by 4.25". Once in place I sewed the zig-zag seams on the sewing machine (and nearly got some of them straight!). I then matted all that onto mushroom colored card stock.
I used the smaller of the PTI cloud dies on some of the papers and used some "wet cement" ink on the edges to make them pop a little.
The "sun" is cut using one of the limitless layers dies. The frame for the sentiment is from PTI Tag-its #7 and the sentiment from PTI framed out #3.
