MIM #146 - Angled Backgrounds

Need for a masculine birthday card (never my favourite) sent me the PTI's Make It Monday challenge.

It all looked a bit busy with all the different papers and I was worried the sentiment would get lost, hence the plain white for the circle (PTI's limitless layers) and a very simple stamp from 2011 Birthday Tags set, and the lovely bold "celebrate" in solid cardstock.

MIM 2013 A la carte - Pillow box

Oh no, that might have been a really bad idea....
Wanting one last go at the challenges I'd missed on PTI's Make it Monday, I decided to use my new pillow box die (another Christmas present - lucky me).
I used the PTIs Postmarks background stamp, and the stamp from the Postmarks set.
Sadly, I now want to spend the rest of the day making up these fabulous little boxes in various colours and designs. Far too addictive a thing to discover 4 hours before my in-laws are due for a visit!

MIM 2013 A la carte - Flocking with dimensional paste

Another entry for the MIM Year end review.
I hadn't got any of the cover plate dies when this challenge first came up, but having just bought the heart one I was delighted to be able to have a go.
I love how well this turned out. The dimensional paste was much easier to use than I expected, and works so well with this cover plate.

MIM 2013 A La carte - Stamping Square Frames

I'm catching up on some of the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday challenges I missed over the past year.
Last time around I struggled to find the time or the inspiration for this challenge, but I've bought one of the Boutique border stamps since then, and a set of nesting square dies (Christmas present - thank you John) made this a much simpler proposition.
I'm always a sucker for the black/craft combination. The layout was inspired by the Heart squared set - it wasn't quite the right size to use, but that was my starting point.

MIM 2013 A la carte - White crayon reist

So happy to have a chance to go back to some of the Make it Monday tutorials at PTI that I just didn't have a chance to get to this year.
While I'm waiting for the dimensional paste card to dry (if you haven't tried this one yet then I can highly recommend it - lots of fun), I thought I'd try the #129 - White crayon resist.

Having first borrowed the white crayon from my neighbour with smaller kids, the rest was pretty straightforward. PTI's Ruby reprise stamp set worked great with this technique.

PTI December Blog Hop - String #2

Sudden inspiration led me to have another go at this month's Blog Hop at PTI.
I like the various layers of die cut and stamped stars (I used PTI bitty background blocks for the patterns).
I love the new "It's a banner day" stamp. So many of my other sentiments fit in the space perfectly so I can tell it's going to get lots of use.

PTI December blog hop - String

Happy Boxing Day.
I had forgotten that it was the PTI Blog Hop until I went online to spend my Christmas present, but took it as an excuse to play with the new hearts cover plate that just arrived.
My husband's first comment was "why are you making Valentine's cards already?", but isn't that always the way for card makers.

Simon says stamp Monday : Challenge - Tissue

I've been too busy to take part in many challenges recently (sounds familiar I'm sure) but when I saw this week's challenge on Simon Says Stamp, I knew I needed to find the time to have a go.

I have wanting to have a go at this technique for ages which is how I had a plain pillar candle ready and waiting.
This Tim Holtz stamp was the perfect fit - sizewise and sentiment-wise! I stamped it with brown staz-on and then coloured the tissue by pulling it through a few different distress stains.
I then attached the tissue to the candle using the heat tool to gently melt the wax until the tissue paper goes a bit shiny.

MIM #143 - Whimsy #2

Modern Whimsy condensed to a gift tag!

There are 3 tags layered together, as well as the middle sized fancy flakes die.
And I really should have let the white ink dry a little longer (as the photo proves) but I needed to get it in the mail to start a transatlantic journey, hopefully in time for Christmas.

MIM #143 - Modern Whimsy

It's pretty fair to say that this weeks Make It Monday was far, far out of my comfort zone.
I was grateful to Danielle for her suggestion to look at her Pinterest board and this did help a lot as I really didn't know where to start.

This isn't actually a card. My nephew has asked for donations towards a new bike for Christmas. I hate giving money - it seems so completely impersonal and without thought but this year I decided not to fight it.
However, making a cheque holder specifically for him at least helped me feel that I'd put some effort into it.
The "FOR" tag will get his name added, but my handwriting has always been a bit rubbish so I thought I'd take the photo before I spoiled it.
