PTI May blog hop

It's time for the monthly blog hop at Papertrey Ink.
The inspiration picture is lovely, just calling for some soft watercoloring.

Sadly, my watercoloring skills need some work and my original idea just wasn't working out so I changed tack. I painted thick stripes using my inktense pencils and once they were dry used the hearts cover plate to cut out a whole load of little hearts.
I embossed a piece of card with the cover plate so I knew where to position the hearts and made a column of each color.
To add some detail I then stitched a line through the centre of each column (I scored the line first so I could get the stitching straight) and mounted a sentiment over the empty space.

And then I made a bonus card with the negatives.

MIM #248 - Blending through diecut masks

Up and Away is one of those stamp sets that I nearly bought a few years ago, and then forgot all about until last week when I was sent a PTI gift card for my birthday and, for once, instead of picking stuff from the current release I went back through the older sets and refound this one.
This weeks' MIM challenge was blending through diecut masks. I used the 2 cloud dies and blended Pumice stone distress and PTI melon berry inks followed by a ghost of white pigment ink to mute it a little.
The sentiments are from PTI Up and Away and Paper clippings - Congratulations, stamped in Stormy sea ink.

MIM #247

This weeks Make it Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink is something I so want to be better at - watercoloring. I've collecting all sorts of "essentials" for this style - clean color markers, gansai tambi, water brushes, and I always seem to have more success with a plain old paintbrush, a pot of water, and a few ink pads.
I was thrown a bit by the "watercolor set" in the challenge brief so I made a set of different but similar birthday cards. They're much more girly that my usual cards - must be Melissa's influence.
I don't have any of PTIs ready printed watercolor paper so I stamped the outline flowers from Vintage Linens on watercolor paper with MFT steel grey ink. (this set had been in and out of my basket for months until I finally decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did). I then "painted" them with PTI Plum pudding, Autumn rose and Lavender moon inks.
I can't tie ribbon bows - I try and try but the loops and ends never go the way I want them!
I love the new Shaped sayings series - can't wait to see whats coming next. I cut this out of smoky shadow card and used spray adhesive to mount it (first time using this technique, and the sentiment fell straight off the card 5 minutes later so I'm not sure I'll be using it again)
These are the 3 cards I made, all using the same colours but different flower layouts and switching the sentiment for the last one.

I tried a few different color combinations
This one is Terracotta tile, canyon clay, orange zest and harvest gold together.
